JAYU Shares Transformation of Studio Space into Accessible Creative Hub
June 10, 2026
TORONTO, ON – JAYU is proud to acknowledge the impact of a $26,100 Capital grant awarded in 2025 by the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation that enabled the organization to transform its studio space at 401 Richmond Street West into a more accessible and community-centred creative hub for equity-deserving artists. The revitalized space provides artists with access to equipment and opportunities to develop their creative practices, and a platform to exhibit and share their work in a supportive environment rooted in storytelling, human rights, and artistic expression.
“The arts have the power to build empathy, challenge injustice, and bring people together across differences,” said Chris Glover, MPP for Spadina-Fort York. “JAYU has been a leader in creating opportunities for equity-deserving youth to express themselves, develop their skills, and make their voices heard through art. This investment in JAYU’s creative hub will help remove barriers to participation and ensure more young artists have access to the space, resources, and support they need to thrive. I’m proud to see this funding strengthening Toronto’s arts community and advancing a more equitable and vibrant future for all.”
The recognition of the grant coincided with JAYU’s upcoming Summer Poetry Slam, presented in collaboration with Toronto Youth Poetry Slam (TYPS), a grassroots platform that uplifts youth poets, performers, and storytellers across Toronto and the GTA. As an organization without a permanent, physical space, TYPS represents the kind of community partnership this grant makes possible.
Through this collaboration, JAYU and TYPS are facilitating a poetry program within the newly enhanced studio space, culminating in a live poetry slam that celebrates youth voices, creativity, and community connection. “At JAYU, we believe storytelling is a powerful tool for social change,” said Nicole Dane, JAYU’s Development Manager. “This support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation allows us to reimagine our space not only as a studio, but as a creative home for artists and communities who deserve greater access to resources, visibility, and opportunity.”
The project reflects JAYU’s ongoing commitment to creating accessible cultural spaces where emerging and underrepresented artists can connect, experiment, and share stories that shape conversations and inspire action.
