WHO ARE WE?
JAYU is a Toronto-based charity dedicated to sharing human rights stories through the arts. The iAM Program program offers equity-deserving youth ages 12-29 free arts mentorship.
iAM programs are free and designed for young artists between the ages of 12 – 29 living in Ontario with no previous experience required. Equity-deserving is inclusive of Black and racialized folks, people with disabilities, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), 2-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (2SLGBTQ+), newcomers to Canada and people experiencing homelessness or precarious housing.

WORKSHOP DETAILS
Bookkeeping
This interactive and learning session will help self-employed artists create a tailored bookkeeping system to manage and organize their self-employed income and expenses. Learning basic bookkeeping skills will also help artists organize their tax preparation documents and have your questions answered in real time.
Budgeting
This interactive workshop will allow you to understand the difference between Cashflow versus Budgeting to help plan your finances for the year.
How to understand and manage the timing/fluctuations in your cash flow as self-employed artists. In addition we will look at how to prepare and adjust a basic yearly budget for both your personal and self-employed expected income and expenses.
Q&A
Open drop-in session to give artists an opportunity to ask questions and work on their bookkeeping systems, tax returns, budgets etc. This will also allow artists to network and share experiences with their peers on their financial literacy journey.

Please bring in a laptop to use during each workshop if you have access to one! If not, one will be provided during the session.

MEET YOUR MENTOR: Jennifer Wan
Jennifer Wan (she/her) is a Chartered Professional Accountant, who left the corporate world to transition her lifestyle to allow more movement in her day-to-day as a Pilates instructor and consultant. As an avid dancer, she engages and connects with the dance community to help educate dancers and artists on financial literacy. By leveraging experience gained throughout her career she is able to help organizations such as City Dance Corps, UNITY, Artscape Daniels Launchpad, Dance Ontario, The National Ballet of Canada, JAYU, DTRC, Dancemakers, CDA, Gadfly and TAPA further their cause and support our local talented dancers and artists.
