JAYU Returns to Black Creek Community Farm Festival with A New Mural!

Toronto, ON | June 30, 2025 — JAYU is proud to return to the 13th annual Black Creek Community Farm Festival with a new public art installation created by 15 equity-deserving youth. This mural painting project is an eight-week iteration of JAYU’s flagship iAM Program, delivered in collaboration with Black Creek Community Farm.

This year’s mural is JAYU’s second public art piece at Black Creek Community Farm, created by a group of youth artists receiving weekly mentorship from Wenting Li, a Toronto-based artist and illustrator. Working across mediums such as drawing, painting, comics, and murals, Wenting guides participants not only in mural techniques and social justice but also through explorations of themes like memory, climate solutions, digital traces, and the power of everyday routines. Throughout the program, youth gather at Black Creek Community Farm to reflect on community, equity, and sustainability, transforming these ideas alongside their personal narratives into a vibrant large-scale mural that mirrors the spirit and beauty of the farm.

This program is made possible through the Artists in Communities and Schools grant from the Ontario Arts Council (OAC). “The support from OAC has been instrumental in allowing us to create meaningful, paid opportunities for emerging artists to connect art with community,” says Nicole Dane, JAYU’s Manager of Development.

The community is invited to Black Creek Community Farm Festival on Saturday, July 19, 2025, where they will have the opportunity to observe the mural in progress and engage with iAM participants as they bring their vision to life. This is a unique opportunity to experience live mural painting, connect with the artists, and celebrate the power of artistic expression and community collaboration.
