No Justice, No Peace

2022

Lyrics:
This is an Afro Anthology, chapter 1 is me.
A man on a quest to find a tribe he can call his peeps
My native tongue don’t match my native country, but still here I am speaking
As best as I can on what it is that I see
And what I see is that it’s a crime to tell stories in rhyme on beat
So am I a criminal for speaking my beliefs?
How come it’s not a crime to be beaten all the time by police
But it’s a crime for me to march through the streets screaming No justice, no peace.

Are you listening to us?!
Screaming & pleading to stop bleeding
Through the concrete cracks!
Screaming & pleading
To stop getting attacked
For what we believe in
Screaming & pleading
To Stop getting capped
Just for breathing
Screaming & pleading
To Stop getting skinned alive
For the MAN to BREED with
Our features.
Screaming & pleading to stop
Having teachers teach false narratives & false histories
To stop cutting down all our family trees
In the hopes of making our destiny’s look bleak.
In the hopes of making us believe
That a Black destiny is a bad thing
In the hopes of breaking our hope
Making us believe all we’re meant to be
Are dope dealers, street corner settlers
But no
We are not all dope dealers, we are all just dope!
We all may not have hope, but we all have healers & leaders
We all have Brothers and sisters, some prisoners of the belief
That being lighter means a brighter future
But no,Our pigment gives us power
The promised land is not a figment of our imaginations. No,
My brothers my sisters, we will not let madames and misters tell us who we are any longer
They may cut our trees, but never our roots
We may not know all our history,
But it all flows through us!
We are all one!If my brother gets shot down, I get shot down!
My sister gets killed, I get killed
So I follow in the steps of those who give me the most will power
To be a representative of my people
To take a stand for my people
To Take a knee for my people
To Take the knee off my people’s necks
And protect as best as I can
All those who wish to follow me
As I follow all the footsteps of all these people who came before me to lead our way

I follow brother Fredrick
I follow brother Kendrick
I follow brother Hendrix
I follow brother X
I follow Sister Nina
I follow Sister ArethaI follow Sister Marsha
I follow Sister Britta
I follow sister Tubman
I follow Brother Heron
I follow Sister Rosa
I follow Brother Hampton
I follow Brother Baldwin
I follow sister Ida
I follow brother Martin
I follow sister Maya
I pray to brother Jesus
Black as his believers
I pray to Brother Buddha
For peace to come sooner
I didn’t wake up and choose violence
I wake up and there were are other options
I wake up to getting shunned & hatred
I wake up nameless & faceless
I wake up to gun in my face
I wake up with my face on ground
I wake up
I wake up
Wake up
I wake up and as soon as I know it
I never wake up again.
