WHO ARE WE?

JAYU is a Toronto-based charity dedicated to sharing human rights stories through the arts. The iAM Program program offers equity-deserving youth ages 12-29 free arts mentorship.

iAM programs are free and designed for young artists between the ages of 12 – 29 living in Ontario with no previous experience required. Equity-deserving is inclusive of Black and racialized folks, people with disabilities, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), 2-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (2SLGBTQ+), newcomers to Canada and people experiencing homelessness or precarious housing.

PROGRAM DETAILS

Learn how to define your purpose as an artist and channel it into words, visuals, and stories that leave impactful impressions, filled with intention.

In this 8-week program, designed and delivered by iAM mentor @ade.jpg, you’ll dig into what makes your practice yours, explore what branding actually means in the context of creative practice, and uncover your north star.

By the end, you’ll have a defined artistic purpose, a few brand assets and the tools to communicate it with confidence and clarity.

MEET YOUR MENTOr

adé abegunde (she/her) is a Nigerian Canadian designer, producer and programmer based in Toronto. Her multidisciplinary practice explores the nuances of the human condition, delving into how bonds and communities are nurtured and formed. At the core of her work is a desire to create spaces where people can better connect to themselves, each other and the world around us. Her approach to organizing comprises a blend of critical thinking and chasing curiosities, that is fundamentally rooted in care.

adé has worked with a wide array of clients and collaborators across creative and cultural industries including Adidas, Havana Club, Kuruza, Lou Val, New Currency, Pinterest, Spencer Badu, Vitaly, Wiiliam Ukoh and Wizkid. She is one of the co-founders of local·global, a creative studio championing stories and fostering cross-cultural exchanges across African communities worldwide. Currently, she is a Programs Coordinator at DesignTO, a charitable arts organization that produces Canada's largest annual design festival and is also the Creative Director of DADA Magazine, an arts publication dedicated to platforming Black artists.

In 2021, she graduated with a Bachelors in Design from OCAD University where she majored in Environmental Design with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. She was featured on the Dazed 100 List for her contributions towards building sustainable creative infrastructure within and outside Africa.
