JAYU is a registered charity that shares human rights stories through the arts and dialogue. Our year-round programming includes:
iAM Program: An award-winning arts and social justice training program offered to 300+ equity-seeking youth annually in the GTA.
Year-Round Programming: Engaging multidisciplinary art experiences rooted in community and social impact.
JAYU Festival of the Arts: A flagship December event celebrating the intersection of human rights and the arts.
Hiring for this position will prioritize youth (up to 35 years old) and equity-deserving groups. Equity-deserving is inclusive of Black and racialized folks, people with disabilities, Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis), 2-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans and Queer (2SLGBTQ+), newcomers to Canada and people experiencing homelessness.
About the Community Access Program:
The Community Access Program (CAP) provides affordable access to the JAYU Studio through a below-market venue rental model. Located in downtown Toronto, the JAYU Studio is a flexible, multi-purpose space that hosts JAYU’s programs, community exhibitions, small screenings, board meetings, and more. CAP prioritizes both emerging and established arts leaders whose work celebrates the arts and human rights storytelling, with a sliding-scale pricing model.
Position Overview:
The Community Access Program Manager will oversee our subsidized space rental program and weekly drop-in program. They will be responsible for day-to-day operations including management of 6 part-time venue supervisors. This role requires both administrative and people skills to shape this next chapter.
Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Operations (60%)
Pilot and facilitate a weekly drop-in program for JAYU’s community members
Maintain Community Access Program through screening event bookings and coordinating with event clients prior to, during, and after bookings
Administer all bookings including contracts, event insurance, and invoice payment requests
Gather client feedback through one-on-one interactions and post-event surveys
Maintain HQ calendar and backup documentation on JAYU’s CRM system.
Implement organizational policies related to finance, HR, facilities, safety, and accessibility
Troubleshoot operational issues on a rolling basis, working with the JAYU team as needed
Provide regular updates to the Executive Director
Update all CAP-related policies and procedures as needed
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and emergency protocols
Use feedback to inform operations including drop-in program, booking platform, and more
Support reporting requirements for funders and grantors
Team Management (40%)
Aid in hiring and onboarding small team of Venue Supervisors (rolling), training them on all policies and procedures
Act as main point of contact for team of venue supervisors, providing ongoing support and feedback
Schedule venue supervisors and active listeners according to bookings and drop-in program
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in events and teams management
Willingness and availability to be on-site as needed and to work a flexible hybrid schedule
Strong troubleshooting and operational skills set
Connection to Toronto’s arts community is an asset
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in event organizing
Great interpersonal skills in a cross-cultural and youth-oriented environment
Strong administrative skills
Experience in managing/mentoring multiple teams is an asset
Must have excellent and demonstrable written and verbal communication skills, and a keen eye for detail and accuracy
Strong time-management skills in meeting deadlines, responding to emails, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities
Technologically proficient, with familiarity or ability to learn Adobe Sign, Keela, Google Suite, Basecamp, and more
