About Us:

 JAYU is a vibrant, award-winning charitable organization based in Toronto that utilizes the power of the arts to tell compelling human rights stories. With a focus on youth engagement, we amplify voices from around the world, weaving together narratives that inspire empathy, understanding, and positive social change. 

 

 

Role Overview:

Our dedicated Board of Directors meets  5 times per year - working collaboratively to support the oversight and governance of the organization, while also passionately advocating for our mission. As a Board Member at JAYU, you will play a role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and contributing to the impactful work we do.

 

 

Responsibilities:

Strategy

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to advance JAYU's mission

  • Contribute to strategic planning, including identifying goals, stakeholders, and risks

Governance

  • Observe governance protocols, follow bylaws, and propose necessary changes

  • Comply with JAYU's conflict of interest policy

Finance

  • Review and sign off on audited financial statements annually

  • Approve the annual budget and allocations

Fundraising

  • Participate in fundraising in some capacity, whether through personal giving, stewarding sponsors, or impactful relationship building

  • Actively promote JAYU's events and programs to expand reach and impact

Advocacy

  • Act as an ambassador for JAYU's mission

  • Champion an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives

 

 

Qualifications:

We're looking for candidates ideally with the following experience:

  • Experience in strategic planning

  • Background in law or human resources, with the ability to guide governance, risk management, and organizational policy

  • Experience in finance, fundraising, or sponsorship, with the ability to support financial oversight

  • Passion for the arts, youth empowerment, and social change

  • Connections in Toronto's arts and culture community

  • Experience in advocacy and community engagement

  • Commitment to equity-deserving communities
