About Us:
JAYU is a vibrant, award-winning charitable organization based in Toronto that utilizes the power of the arts to tell compelling human rights stories. With a focus on youth engagement, we amplify voices from around the world, weaving together narratives that inspire empathy, understanding, and positive social change.
Role Overview:
Our dedicated Board of Directors meets 5 times per year - working collaboratively to support the oversight and governance of the organization, while also passionately advocating for our mission. As a Board Member at JAYU, you will play a role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and contributing to the impactful work we do.
Responsibilities:
Strategy
Provide strategic direction and oversight to advance JAYU's mission
Contribute to strategic planning, including identifying goals, stakeholders, and risks
Governance
Observe governance protocols, follow bylaws, and propose necessary changes
Comply with JAYU's conflict of interest policy
Finance
Review and sign off on audited financial statements annually
Approve the annual budget and allocations
Fundraising
Participate in fundraising in some capacity, whether through personal giving, stewarding sponsors, or impactful relationship building
Actively promote JAYU's events and programs to expand reach and impact
Advocacy
Act as an ambassador for JAYU's mission
Champion an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives
Qualifications:
We're looking for candidates ideally with the following experience:
Experience in strategic planning
Background in law or human resources, with the ability to guide governance, risk management, and organizational policy
Experience in finance, fundraising, or sponsorship, with the ability to support financial oversight
Passion for the arts, youth empowerment, and social change
Connections in Toronto's arts and culture community
Experience in advocacy and community engagement
Commitment to equity-deserving communities
